Running During Pregnancy

By Sarah Pachev

Running during pregnancy is a safe and an effective way to have a wonderful pregnancy, if you are already in shape when you get pregnant. If you are not, getting ready to run a 5 K is a good start.

When I found out I was pregnant with our third child I was running about five miles a day. What a shock to discover that I did not have to stop running! I got on the internet and researched to see if other women kept running while pregnant. Few women are in shape to continue but there were women out there doing it. You should see the looks my neighbors give me as I puffed through my second mile at 7 or 8 months pregnant!

Let me tell you a little bit about my second pregnancy. I had been running a couple miles a day. When I became pregnant I stopped completely. My body needed the exercise to stay healthy but I didn't understand the connection. I experienced extreme fatigue and horrible insomnia problems during that pregnancy. I tricked myself into thinking that I was too tired to exercise.

Running during my third pregnancy eliminated the insomnia problem. I felt so great I didn't even need naps. I had the energy and drive to take care of my two little chilren while my husband worked on a book and needed lots of time alone. So, get in shape now and stay in shape so you can experience the amazing benefits of running during those glorious nine months.
